O Provinciano Incurável (The incurable provincial man)
Inspired by the life and work of Luís da Câmara Cascudo, the play is part of the group’s research on important popular culture figures.
The project was part of the State Secretary for Culture’s Viva a Arte (Celebrate the Art) program in 2015/2016. Written by Luiz Fernando Pinto and directed by Marcia do Valle, the play was staged in a number of public spaces in Rio de Janeiro.
Plot summary
Francisco travelled around the country listening to many stories, but one in particular caught his attention, that of a man who knew everything and who was driven by a deep love for Brazilian culture and curiosity about its people. It is the story of Câmara Cascudo, a story that even God does not fully believe.
A group of young people visits Cascudo’s home, in the margins of the Potengi river, in Natal, curious about his life and research.
Talkative and very sensitive, he presents the audience with stories and facts about his life. He made a meticulous and passionate map of Brazilianness by listening, taking notes and disseminating stories, either factual or fictional. During the play we understand why Cascudo became an icon in the process of investigating our origins.
